When Aston Martin introduced the DB11 in 2016, it marked the start of a new era for the brand. However, fast forward to 2023 and the launch of the DB12, which Aston Martin calls the world’s first “super tourer”. While headlines focus on power and performance. Some of the most dramatic changes are found inside the cabin. Interior Design & Materials

The DB11’s interior was praised for its craftsmanship, but some elements such as the layout of controls and reliance on borrowed technology fell behind its rivals. Nevertheless, the DB12 changes this dramatically. The dashboard design is cleaner and more driver focused, with a lower profile that improves forward visibility.

In terms of materials, both cars use hand-stitched leather and bespoke finishes. However, the DB12 elevates the sense of luxury. Aston Martin has incorporated more sustainable materials, expanded customisation options and introduced refined details such as knurled metal switches and higher grade trim inserts. Ergonomics are improved too, the DB12 features redesigned seating with better bolstering for spirited driving.

Infotainment & Technology

One of the biggest criticisms of the DB11 was its infotainment system, which is equal to an older Mercedes-Benz technology. While functional, it lacked the modern interface as well as speed and features expected in a six-figure GT. Additionally the DB12 addresses this head on with Aston Martin’s first in house infotainment platform. The system features a 10.25-inch high resolution touchscreen which has rapid response times and crisp graphics. In addition to this Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, something DB11 owners sorely missed. In addition, the DB12 integrates a new digital driver display, advanced navigation, over-the-air software updates and a far more intuitive control layout.

Comfort & Driving Experience Enhancements

Grand tourers are built for covering distance in style and comfort is just as important as horsepower. While comfort levels were high in the DB11, some road noise and limited seat adjustability were common complaints.

The DB12 improves this significantly by introducing enhanced acoustic insulation and new soundproofing materials that reduce cabin noise at motorway speeds. The seats are re-engineered with heating, cooling and 16-way adjustment options which offer better lumbar support for long journeys. Climate control has been upgraded for faster response not to mention the ambient lighting which helps set a more premium mood inside the cabin.

From a driving perspective, the integration of more advanced driver assistance systems (such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition) makes the DB12 safer and more user friendly than its predecessor.
